Mumbai Looking New Title Contenders Again

Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya has sent out a bold message to rivals in the Indian Premier League 2025 — “complete domination” is on the horizon once the entire team starts firing. His comments came after MI’s clinical 7-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Wednesday.

Mumbai chased down the modest target of 144 with 15 balls to spare, thanks to a combined effort with both bat and ball. Pandya praised his team’s growing confidence and said that MI will be unstoppable once all players begin to perform consistently.

“Good to have wins behind our back. Glad the boys are taking the momentum in the right way. I’ve felt, once everyone starts clicking in this team there will be domination. Deepak, Boult set it up; Rohit, SKY finished it. Overall, a wonderful win,” said Pandya in the post-match presentation.

MI Bowlers Set the Tone Early

Mumbai’s bowlers were instrumental in setting up the victory. Trent Boult once again proved his worth in the powerplay, swinging the ball both ways and troubling the SRH top order. He ended with figures of 2/22 in four overs, dismissing Mayank Agarwal and Rahul Tripathi early.

Deepak Chahar, returning from injury, made an instant impact by tying down the middle order and picking up two crucial wickets, including the dangerous Heinrich Klaasen. His spell of 2/19 in four overs helped choke SRH’s momentum as they limped to 143/7 in 20 overs.

Spinners were economical as well, with Piyush Chawla and Shams Mulani maintaining tight lines and forcing dot balls during the middle overs.

Rohit and Suryakumar Finish in Style

In response, Mumbai Indians began their chase cautiously. Ishan Kishan fell early, but the experienced Rohit Sharma anchored the innings with a well-paced 52 off 39 balls. He found able support in Suryakumar Yadav (SKY), who smashed a blistering 45* off just 24 balls, peppered with 5 fours and 2 sixes.

The duo’s 82-run partnership ensured there were no hiccups as MI cruised towards the target. Tilak Varma chipped in with a quick cameo to complete the chase in 17.3 overs.

Hardik Pandya’s Calm Leadership Shining Through

This win comes at a crucial juncture in MI’s campaign. After a rocky start to the season, Hardik Pandya’s leadership appears to be stabilizing the side. He hasn’t just been leading with the bat and ball but also bringing a calm, composed energy to the team environment.

Pandya’s ability to trust his bowlers and back his players has been evident in the past few games, and this win adds further weight to his captaincy credentials.

What This Means for Mumbai Indians

With this victory, Mumbai Indians now climb into the top half of the points table and look poised for a strong run into the playoffs. If the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Tim David, and Cameron Green begin firing alongside the regulars, MI could very well be on their way to another IPL title.

The combination of youth and experience, backed by a strong leadership core, is starting to click — and that should worry the rest of the teams.

Next Up

Mumbai Indians will next face the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium in a high-voltage clash that could further cement their playoff aspirations. Sunrisers, on the other hand, need to regroup quickly as their campaign continues to spiral downward.
